The difference between hard and soft enamel

Last updated on

Imagine, you’re looking for personalized metal pins. You’re configuring your product and you suddenly have the choice between hard and soft enamel. But, what’s the difference between the two? We explain that here.

Hard enamel

The biggest difference between hard and soft enamel is the finished texture and look.

Hard enamel pins are generally more durable because every color is poured into the pin separately up to the edge and is baked afterwards. This means that a pin with 5 colors will be baked 5 times.

The enamel is baked at a very high temperature and is polished down to the metal edges that separate the colors. You can barely feel these edges anymore after.

Soft enamel

Soft enamel pins are less durable and you can clearly feel the difference between the enamel and the edges. The advantage is that these are cheaper and they have more possibilities for complex designs and colors.

Every color is applied to the pin after which everything will be baked in 1 go. The colors won’t come to the edges, which means that you can really feel the difference between the colors and the edges.
